Day to Day

We arrive, we thank God for the meal and and ask His blessing, and start serving.

We serve until 5:30 p.m. They may come back and have as many servings as they wish to eat.
Helping Hands is not just here to throw "food" on their plates. These people need someone to talk to, to care about them as individuals. When I have Bibles, I place them out for them to take. Daily Breads or other daily devotionals are also placed. If they need prayer, we pray for them. The one thing we don't do is hand them money.

On Wednesdays, serving outside can be adventurous! We have been through rain, snow, hurricanes, but mostly sun. Rainy days and snowy days are a little challenging. Windy conditions are tough because of making sure napkins, cups, and paper plates don't blow away.

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays we serve inside First Church of God, 15 N. 4th St.. Harrisburg. We have been inside for over a year now, They are a blessings to us.

We also serve Sundays at St. Stephen's Cathedral, 221 North Front Street, Harrisburg. We start serving at 4:30 p.m. and serve till 5:30 p.m. We arrive about 15 minutes earlier to carry food and "things" downstairs in their cafeteria. There are trays and paper products. We serve for an hour; again as much as they wish to eat. When they are finished we wash the pots, pans, trays and wipe down the tables. We have been truly blessed by St. Stephen's for allowing us to use their facility for so many years.

There are opportunities to help. One could help serve during the week and/or on Sundays. Also on Saturdays; we receive a wonderful food donation from the Broad Street Market. This is where we get food for Sundays meal. And we can always use a "helping hand" to load this food onto our truck.

The other food for the other days of the week, I buy at Central PA Food Bank. All the food is prepared at my home. There have been churches and organizations that have had food drives for us. Monies come from anywhere and everywhere, some churches and some from whoever wants to donate money. We are a totally volunteer run ministry.
